Going back to school after one whole month of fun and frolic may seem like a harrowing experience for most. For the less fortunate, worries come in the form of not having the right shoes, uniforms or schoolbags.
For the 14th year running, Intel Malaysia held its Back2School programme to benefit underprivileged students from selected schools in Penang, this time in collaboration with Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri Pulau Pinang (JPN), Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah Pulau Pinang, Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah Kedah Darul Aman, SMK Mengkuang and SK Mengkuang (an Intel Involved Matching Grant Program school).
4 underprivileged students each from 24 schools (including 23 IIMGP schools) were invited to participate in this year’s Back2School program where each student was presented with an Intel Back2School kit which includes a schoolbag, stationery, uniforms, school shoes, and socks donated by Intel employees.
8 schools were also the lucky recipient of surplus laptops:
While students occupied their time with game stations manned by Intel employee; playing games such as Pick-up Sticks, Chess, Snakes and Ladders and Monopoly Deal, the visiting guests of honour were also not left out of the festivities.
Students from SK Mengkuang feted Tuan Haji Osman Bin Hussain, Head of the Human Development Management Sector, Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri Pulau Pinang, Encik Mohd Jamil Bin Hj Othman, Head of the Co-curriculum Unit, Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri Pulau Pinang, Puan Zaitun bt Yahya, Principal, SMK Mengkuang, Puan Jamilah bt Man, PengetuaPrincipal, SMK Mengkuang and Mr. Yeoh Eng Hong, Operations Manager, Intel Malaysia to two traditional Malay dances; the Kuda Kepang and Endang. All in all, the event was a successful one. Smiles were on every student’s face as they went up stage to receive their bags. The students were even gifted with angpows and mandarin oranges in conjunction with Chinese New Year.
With a helping hand from Intel Malaysia employees, going Back2School can be fun.

With less than a week left before Christmas, we would like to take some time to reflect on some of the things we’ve done in the past year. At Intel Malaysia, we are very proud of the fact that we make it a point to live like it was Christmas every single day of the year. We are, of course, referring to the Christmas spirit of giving and sharing; though we wouldn’t say no to a bit of fruitcake, eggnog and turkey stuffing every now and then.
It goes without saying that all of our sharing initiatives; be they in benefit of education, the environment or science; was made possible thanks in no small part to the selfless efforts of our employees and associates at Intel Malaysia. In no particular order for your viewing pleasure and ours, we’ve captured some of our CSR highlights as a ‘Thank You’ to everyone involved.

Christmas came early for Intel recently at the Intel Malaysia 2010 highlights and 2011 Outlook media dinner held at the Gaja Restaurant, Bangsar.
While the food did play a relatively large role during the event (it WAS a dinner after all), Ryaz Patel, Country Manager of Intel Malaysia got straight to business when he took to the microphone to review Intel’s key business milestones for 2010.
Some of the many achievements reviewed included:
the launch of the Intel® Core™ Family of Processors,
the launch of WiMAX-ready 4G laptops in Malaysia with Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250,
the inaugural myTRIZ Conference 2010: Nurture A Generation Of Innovative Knowledge Workers
and the launch of the Intel Virtual Retail Sales Person amongst other things.
Prompted by the hunger growls calling from the spectators’ bellies, Ryaz then handed the microphone over to the surprise guest of the evening, Prakash Mallya, Malaysia’s new Country Manager for sales and marketing operations.
That’s right.
Ryaz Patel, Intel’s outgoing Malaysia Country Manager, will be assuming assume the role of Asia Pacific MNC Sales Director in the coming months where he will be responsible for continuing to raise ICT adoption across Asia Pacific and increase the region’s role in new areas such as cloud computing.
The response to this announcement was swift as the above pictures indicate with the news reaching even those not present at the event.
Following the surprise announcement, Prakash immediately plunged into the thick of the action in his role as the incoming Country Manager by helming the outlook portion of the Year End Review. In reviewing upcoming trends for the IT industry for the year 2011, Prakash predicted many things including:
the 2nd generation Intel® Core™ Processors
tablet Mania, “Hybrid-ization”
and even provided a sunny forecast for cloud, virtualized computing.
In an accompanying press statement for the event, Prakash added "I am really excited to be a part of Malaysia’s growth story. With continued collaboration with our customers, government and business partners, I’m confident we'll be able to significantly contribute towards Malaysia’s goal of becoming a high income, knowledge-based economy."
Ryaz Patel goes on to add, "It's been an amazing two years leading the team in Malaysia. I’m confident that Prakash’s leadership will help Intel further support Malaysia’s objectives of pervasive access to broadband; integration of technology in education and nurturing a culture of innovation.”
And so, as 2010 draws to a close, let us all as one wish Ryaz Patel all the best in his future endeavours as we extend a warm welcome to Prakash Mallya.

Retail therapy candidates will agree with this. The one thing most capable of ruining a session of leisure or competitive shopping is the presence of a pesky sales person hovering at your elbow with a million and one suggestions of what you should and shouldn’t buy.
Fortunately, Intel Malaysia has finally come up with the perfect solution to this problem. Just last week, Intel Malaysia launched Asia's first Intel Virtual Retail Salesperson (RSP) to enhance consumers' IT shopping experience in Malaysia. Powered by Intel Core processors with Intel vPro technology, Intel's interactive kiosk is the result of a combined effort between Intel ECG (Embedded & Communications Group), local retailers, In2 Marketing and V-Series International Sdn Bhd.
The first of its kind in Asia, the Intel Virtual RSP powered by Intel® Core™ processors is an interactive kiosk with an easy step-by-step decision making tool which complements the role of retail salespersons to help customers choose their personal computer (PC) according to their budget and usage model.
The newly launched Intel Virtual RSP is one of Intel’s digital signage solutions made possible by Intel’s ECG. For more than 30 years, Intel has been a major player in the embedded and communications market, and digital signage is a new and emerging market segment that offers significant potential for advertisers and end customers.
“Intel’s embedded business has a tremendous opportunity for growth in intelligent applications, currently fuelling innovation across more than 30 markets with more than 3,500 customers in 15 industries around the world and generates over US$ 2 billion dollar in annual revenues,” said Eric WP Chan, Director for Intel Embedded and Communications Group (ECG), Asia Operations.
So, the next time you drop by Low Yat Plaza and a salesperson attempts to ruin your day, all you have to do is say, “I’ll use the Intel Virtual Retails Salesperson. Thankyouverymuch.”

Imagine blasting off to the edge of Space at a supersonic speed of one mile every two seconds (Mach 2.5). Now imagine being over 82, 000 feet from Earth - nearly three times the height of Mount Everest. You’d be so high you can actually see the curvature of the Earth!!
Thanks to Intel’s Blast Off with Turbo Boost , our very own Mr. Haffiz Muhammad is already in Russia with his fellow winners to attend space training in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. Once cleared to fly, they will board a MIG-31 fighter jet (not together, of course) and take off for the edge of space!!
Flown by top Russian pilots, the flight will break the sound barrier before going on to hit Mach 2.5 - or about 1.6 km every two seconds. At the highest point, the winners will take in a breath-taking vista from 2.5 times the height of Mount Everest. They will see the curvature of the Earth with a horizon measuring 1,100 km across and the inky blackness of deep space. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they don’t run over any aliens on the way there.

If this isn’t the ultimate Turbo Boost, we don’t know what is. Intel’s Blast Off with Turbo Boost was announced in conjunction with the launch of the all-new 2010 Intel® Core™ Processor Family on the 15th of January, 2010.
